Good afternoon,

I hope everyone had a wonderful night! Thank you so much to all the students who brought in money for Terry Fox. Our class raised just shy of $400! Excellent job grade 4’s!! Thank you to Laryssa and Tanya for singing O'Canada in French yesterday!

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION:

SJA will be holding a PD Day camp on Friday, October 9, as it is our first PD day. Forms were sent home earlier this week. It is a first come first serve, so if you are interested please complete the form and hand it along with your money! The cost is $45.00.

We are collecting food for the Eden Food Drive from now until
Thursday, October 8.  Please see the list below for items they
are in need of. Anything you can bring in would be greatly
appreciated.

The Maples Academy is holding their Fall Fair and Craft Sale on Saturday, October 3 from 10:00-4:00. It will be lots of fun so please feel free to join in!

I am still waiting on a few parents to connect to ‘Class Dojo.’ It is a great way for you to monitor your child’s behavioural progress while at school! Please continue to sign agendas and check the blog.

Math
Today we worked with writing numbers in four different ways. One-way being to write it in standard form (simply the number – 1,477). Expanded form looks like this – 1000 + 400 + 70 +7. Using words to write the numbers – one thousand, four hundred and seventy-seven. We also drew pictures of base 10 blocks to represent the numbers. They worked very hard this morning and we were able to fly through the lesson. Great work everyone!

This afternoon was our Terry Fox run. Everyone did a great job walking and running. We finished off the day with our devices, as they were able to get 100 pom-poms in September. Good job!

Have a wonderful night!

I have introduced ‘Class Dojo’ as a form of behavior management. Each student will get a point for good behavior or lose a point for bad behavior. At the end of the month the person with the most points will receive a reward. You as parents will have access to your child’s Dojo to see how they have been behaving at school. I have sent home a letter with further instructions.  If you have not connected please do so! Any questions please let me know and I will do my best to answer them. Please continue to sign agendas and check the blog.

NEW BIRTHDAY POLICY - we have a new birthday policy. Please read over the policy below and if there are any questions please let me know!

Birthdays are a wonderful and exciting time for every child. We are happy to have your child recognize and celebrate this special day with their classmates at SJA.  But in celebrating your child's birthdays we do ask for the policies on birthday celebrations be recognized and followed.

SJA Birthday Celebration Policy

  • Families may choose to send an item in to the school to be used to celebrate their child's birthday
  • We request that food items are not sent to school to celebrate a birthday during the school day (e.g cake, cupcakes, cookies, etc.).  This is due to the communal area that food and snacks are consumed, and based on the school's anaphylactic policy.
Some suggestions of ways to celebrate (if you choose to do so)...
  • Send a 'loot bag' to celebrate your child's birthday. We are happy to send that home with their classmates to be opened at home.
  • Purchase a book from your local book store that your child can bring with them on their birthday.  This book could be purchased for your child's class and be the Birthday Book that is read in their honour instead of purchasing a food item.  It would remain at the school in the SJA library with your child's name forever inscribed.
  • Contact the school to rent the multi-purpose room at the end of the school day for a birthday party to be held at the school.
We thank you for your help in maintaining a safe and healthy school and for abiding by the 'no food items' policy for students' birthdays.

 Math
Today was an introductory lesson on Whole Numbers. We wrote out a few definitions and then completed a warm up activity.

Language
Today we did a lesson in our Writing 4 language books on different types of sentences (telling, asking, and exclamatory) and compound sentences (using and, or, and but). We were also able to take a trip to the library for some reading time.

U.O.I. (Unit of Inquiry)
Today we discussed how to properly set a table. I drew a place setting on the board and the students copied it down. They will have a small test on what they remembered about a place setting on Monday, October 5.

Have a wonderful night!

All school bags can be put on their hooks upon arrival at SJA, so the gym does not get overcrowded with school bags. Also if you could have your children put their agendas in the agenda box and homework in the homework bin inside the classroom it would help speed things up!

The gym door is to be used before school and after school. After 8:50 that door will be locked and you will have to enter through the front of the building. The ‘kiss and ride’ program is in full swing. It’s a great way to pick up your children and saves you from having to park and come into the school! Please see email as we have changed how ‘kiss and ride’ will work!

Math
Today we wrapped up our review for the first unit. I have no doubt that my students will do very well! Our unit test will take place on Monday, September 28. A review was sent home a few days ago. I strongly encourage the class to study the review sheet as well as their MMS.

Language
Today was our lesson 2 spelling test. Once again, I will mark and send home for you to look over, sign, and return to school. If students get a word wrong they are expected to write out that word 10 times. We also had time to practice our bullying skits.

U.O.I. (Unit of Inquiry)
Today the students presented their skits. They were all done very well. Great job everyone!

Have a wonderful weekend!
