Today was a fun day. We began with music and French and then headed to our classroom for some experiments. Then we worked on our Halloween booklets, which contained word searches, math worksheets, crosswords, word scrambles, and fill in the blanks. We also had time for a small party where students were able to hand out treats. We ended our day with a stellar dance party.

LANGUAGE:

Homework - Remember to read for 30 minutes each night!

MATH:

Homework – Unit 6 math test will take place Monday, November 7. A review will be sent home Friday!

Unit of Inquiry:

Today we got together once again with Ms. Schwarz’s grade 4’s to do some pitch experiments. We used different kinds of string to make pitch waves and we used a glass filled with water. We found out that pitch is how low or high and sound is. Through our experiments we found out that the faster an object vibrates the higher the pitch is and the slower an object vibrates the lower the pitch is. Low pitch has big, long waves and high pitches have small, quick waves.

Have a safe and fun Halloween! Happy trick or treating!!

MATH:

Today we learned how to make change. This is the same as subtraction. Begin with the bigger amount and take away the smaller amount. Do not forget to add the decimal (the dot) and the $ sign!

Homework – MMS pg 98-99

UOI:

Today we looked at the ear and discovered how sound (remember vibrations cause sound) is heard in our ears. We learned that sound travels from our outer ear to our eardrum, which vibrates. Sound then travels through the 3 small bones, which move and send vibrations to the cochlea. Attached to the cochlea are tiny hairs that are joined to nerves. The nerves then send a signal to our brain to let us know we are hearing. Ask them how long this takes to happen! Then we created posters on how to protect our hearing. We also watched a video on it.

Homework – Complete questions #1-4 from today’s lesson. The answers should be in the reading we

did today!

Have a wonderful night!
