We were outside all weekend long enjoying the beautiful weather! We also
started ball hockey! Kase is playing for the Capitals and Carter is playing for the Oilers! After school activity forms due tomorrow, as well as
after care money. Please be sure to check your junk mail for your after care
invoice from Freshbooks. **Spelling Bee information and lists were sent home tonight. Please keep the list available for students to study!**

about their Grade 6 Exhibition project on Child Neglect - Dear parents/ guardians,
We are Grade 6 students doing a project
called exhibition. Our topic is child neglect. For our action we chose to do a
clothing donation for the children that may have experienced neglect in our
community. We will be donating all of the gently used clothing to the
CAS and local charities. If you would like to donate any gently used
clothing please place them in the box labeled Clothing Donations for the CAS
and surrounding charities. It can be found by the SJA side door where you come
into the school in the morning. The last day to make a donation is Wednesday,
April 25.

Some of our students have signed a
petition to go ‘meatless’ for Mondays in May! One of the Grade 6’s Exhibition
project is Animal Agriculture and part of their action is to encourage ‘meatless
Mondays!’
St. Jude’s FC – A
new and exciting soccer program has arrived at SJA. St. Jude’s FC is the
official soccer academy affiliated with SJA, which is currently taking
applicants for its inaugural season. St. Jude's FC will be playing against the
best REP teams around the area. Do not miss the opportunity to sign your child
up to not only play against the best, but be coached by the best as well.

A
group of Grade 6’s are promoting Meatless Mondays for their Exhibition project. They have
come up with this month's special, which is Crispy Cauliflower Bites for
$4.50 with a side of tzatziki dip that will be available every
Monday! You will find more information about Meatless Mondays around the
school.

after completing your order, a Freshbooks invoice will be sent to your email.
- It may take one
or two days to process your order to Freshbooks, so please be check your
email diligently for the invoice.

MATH:
Today we related fractions to division. This is done
when we have an improper fraction, such as 8/3. Any division question (8
divided by 5) can be written as a fraction (8/3). All we have to do is ask ourselves
what is 8 / 5 and we can see that our answer will be 1 3/5. It changes into a
mixed number. We can use long division for this. We also are able to show it by
drawing pictures.

Lowest Common Denominator
Key points to remember:
Numerator is
the number on the top part of the fraction.
Denominator
is the number on the bottom part of the fraction.
A proper
fraction is a fraction where the smaller number is the numerator and a
bigger number is the denominator. For example, ½, 3/5, 5/8.
An improper
fraction is when the numerator has a bigger number and the denominator has
a smaller number. For example, 12/7.
A mixed number
has both a whole number and a fraction. For example, 1 ¼.
Cross-multiplication -
we begin by multiplying the first
numerator with the second denominator. Then we multiply the first denominator with the second numerator.
For example; 3/5 and 2/4. We multiply 3 x 4 =12 and 5 x 2 = 10. Our new
fractions are now 12/5 and 10/4. Whichever fraction has the bigger numerator is
the bigger fraction, so from our example 3/5 is greater than (>) 2/4. For
fractions that have the same denominator we do not have to do anything but look
at the numerators.
Fractions
to decimals - 3/10 = 0.3, 15/100 = .15, 125/100 =
1.25. We also need to keep in mind that we can covert simple fractions as well.
For example; ¼ - .25, ¾ = .75, 4/5 = .80.
Remember to keep things out of 10 and 100! We can also put mixed numbers
into decimals as well. For example; 2 ½ = 2.5, 2 ¾ = 2.75.
